* The Feline Foster Program is not a means to temporarily own or try out a cat. It is an important and often lifesaving alternative to shelter life for specifically selected cats. *
Thank you for your interest in our FUPI Cat Foster Care Program. We are always looking for awesome cat fosters to join our FUPI Team. Every new foster means one more life saved so you really can make a difference for many amazing cats that need you. You will first be asked to fill out the Foster Cat Application and our Volunteer/ Liability Form. Once we receive and review the paperwork, we will schedule a home visit to go over additional information and answer any questions you may have.
We do ask that you are able to keep the foster cats separate from your resident pets; a spare room or office works great for this. During the home visit, we can help to ensure your home is set up and ready to foster our FUPI cats. When available, FUPI will provide cat food, litter, toys, linens, etc to help care for your foster cat. Our FUPI Donation Coordinator is in charge of distributing donations to fosters when we have these items available and will contact you to coordinate any items you may need.
As a FUPI Foster, we do ask that you take the cats to and from their vet appointments, if necessary. Also, pick up and drop off at one of our three PetSmart Adoption Center locations. We always try to work around your schedule and want to ensure that fostering is a wonderful and positive experience for you and for our FUPI cats. You can choose to foster back to back (drop one cat off and pick another up, almost always at the same location), or you can foster once a month or every few weeks. As long as we know your preference, we can work with you. Our cats stay in the condos at our Petsmart Adoption Centers for about two weeks, they will be scheduled to go to a foster home for about 10-14 days. You will be providing the cats with some much needed R&R and a break from the condos. This gives you, the foster, a chance to get to know the cat’s personality a bit better and how they interact outside of the condos, which also helps us work towards finding them their furever home. If fostering kittens is something you are also interested in, kitten foster periods typically last from 2-12 weeks, depending on the age of the kittens.
If our FUPI Cat Foster Program sounds like something you would like to do, please fill out FUPI Foster Application and let’s get the process started today/Again, thank you so much and we hope to have you be a part of our FUPI Team soon!
